What Are Employee Stock Options (ESOs)?

Employee Stock Options (ESOs) are contracts that give employees the right, but not the obligation, to purchase a certain number of shares in the company they work for at a preset price, typically called the “strike price.” They are offered as part of an employee’s compensation package to incentivize and reward the employees and align their interests with those of the company and its shareholders.
